When one family lost their dog, they never thought they would see him again. In time, they tried to move on, even planning to adopt a new cat. Then, something incredible happened while they were in line at the animal shelter…
Plans On Adoption
The day started at out like at any other Jacksonville Humane Society Center, in Jacksonville, Florida. In fact, they expected slightly larger crowds than average as they were having an event with PetSmart, to help people adopt dogs and cats. One family, who wishes to remain anonymous, had lost their dog Dopey recently and, after finally starting to move on, had decided to adopt a cat and give it a new cozy and loving home.
Yet, while standing in line and waiting patiently, the dad from this family started to look around. His gaze went around the center and ended up on a bigger-sized dog, who the staff members were about to take on a walk outside. As the father stared at it, he started to notice something about the dog with white and brown colors…
That’s when the dad realized that the caretakers were about to take his lost dog out for a walk! When the workers started to take the dog outside for a walk, he knew he needed to do something to get their attention. So, the father did the only thing he could think of: he shouted at the top of his lungs!
Surprising Turn Of Events
“That’s my Dopey!” the father called. His favorite dog quickly turned around and ran to his owner and family, licking their hands and faces. It seemed like Dopey was just as happy to see his owners as the family felt to have their furry friend back! Thankfully, after recognizing his parents, this cute pup never left their side. “The dog heard his voice and ran over to the family – it was HIS family! He leaped into their arms and started covering them with kisses,” the Jacksonville Humane Society wrote on their Facebook.
After talking to staff, the family found out how Dopey came to the Jacksonville Humane Society. They said that he got there just a month before the event, living as a stray dog before that. Believe it or not, he was up for adoption to find a new home right at that very event! Who knew he’ll find his old owner and reunite with them?
“From the strangers who helped Dopey when he was lost to the volunteers and staff who lovingly cared for him, from the donors who made his reunion possible to foundations like PetSmart Charities for sponsoring the event that brought this family back together … generosity and joy are all around us,” the representatives of Jacksonville Humane Society commented on the touching story.
